The person behind the wobbles
I’m Gemma Jane, the hands (and occasional chaos) behind WobblyWorks. My pottery journey started in January 2021, when I began weekly classes and quickly fell in love with the feeling of clay in my hands. While I did have a go on the wheel (and somehow still produced wobbly pots) it was hand-building, especially coiling that really sparked my creativity.
Everything I make is built slowly by hand, which means every piece develops naturally with its own character and distinctive wobble. No two are ever the same and that's how they're meant to be.
My background
Before clay took over my kitchen table I spent most of my career in marketing, including roles at printing companies, a recycling charity, a creative agency and mostly recently a global institution, where I was unexpectedly made redundant.
This nudged me to follow my dreams and do the thing I've always wanted to do... run my own business. I took the leap and launched WobblyWorks by Gemma Jane on Instagram, initially to share my handmade pottery creations and connect with people.
Things quickly grew from there. I've since taken part in some successful exhibitions and was incredibly lucky to be gifted a kiln. This gave me the confidence and ability to continue on my wobbly pottery journey.
If you would like to follow me and see what I'm making next, come and find me on Instagram.
